This website (previously ASDinfoWales) belongs to and is run by the National Autism Team, which is funded by Welsh Government. It is one of the resources which helps the Team achieve their aim to improve the lives of autistic people in Wales.

The following advice is adapted from NICE Guideline CG142: Autism in adults: diagnosis and management [www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg142]

Offer an assessment of needs to families, partners and carers of adults with autism. This assessment should include:

  • personal, social and emotional support
  • support in their caring role, including respite care and emergency plans
  • advice on and support in obtaining practical support
  • planning of future care for the person with autism.

Where the assessment identifies needs, provide information about, and facilitate contact with, any available support groups.

If families, partners or carers need help with the care of the person with autism, or if they are involved in the delivery of an intervention, offer them information, advice, training and support.
